I'd like to be able to use a tool like grep to extract an entire bibtex reference rather than just the matching line.

The result will be a new BibTeX file containing all the entries of the input files that satisfy the condition. Bib2bbi a cross-reference is not in that list, then its fields will be expanded into all entries that cross-refers to it.
